Operations, that manage the POM is quite slow under Windows. I did some profiling (see attachement) which shows that the reason is, that the UAA service agagin and again flushes preferences to the Windows registry.
Under Windows XP 64, this took 12 seconds for only one operation, that was adding some dependencies to the POM. (without UAA it takes less than one second).
Okay, maybe Windows XP 64 is "unusual" and not supported, but even under Windows 7, it takes bewtween 3 or 4 seconds (did no exact profiling for this OS) to flush the preferences again and again... So, it is always a major part of the total time.
