The Spring-WS project:

has a reference to wss4j-1.5.4.jar

This jar doesn't exist in the maven repo's. The only way i've found to get it is from the manual "all dependencies" download of spring-ws.

It used to be available at http://dist.wso2.org/maven2/org/apache/ws/security/wss4j/, but it seems like WSO2 pulled it.

Well, that's understandable since the vote on release 1.5.4 has passed this week.

See http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/ws-wss4j-dev/200806.mbox/browser .

Downgraded to WSS4J, since has issues.

Well, 1.5.4 has now been released and can be found here:

Jeez, this wss4j release process is driving me nuts! First they put 1.5.4 up at WSO2's repo, then they pull it, then they publish it again, but it fails our unit tests. So apparently, this new 1.5.4 is not the same as the old 1.5.4. Sigh.

Upgraded, and fixed an issue with UsernameToken usernames not showing up, in Wss4jHandler. No idea why this wasn't showing up earlier.

Closing issues in 1.5.3
